Sidney Pipe establishes S.H. Pipe & Company 

1938

Sam Eckler joins S.H. Pipe & Company as Pipe’s assistant and actuarial student. 

1943

The firm becomes Pipe & Eckler

1947

Sidney Pipe retires; Eckler & Company is born

1964

The firm becomes Eckler, Brown & Company Ltd.

Eckler has been proudly serving clients for almost 100 years. Founded in 1927, we have grown to become one of Canada’s most respected independent consulting firms, known for our deep expertise, long-standing client relationships, and commitment to excellence.

Eckler is a Canadian-based firm. While we primarily serve clients across Canada and the Caribbean, our reach extends internationally.  Through our global alliances, we also support organizations with operations in the United States and internationally. Where needed, we collaborate with trusted global partners to ensure our clients receive informed, locally relevant advice wherever they operate. 

Our head office is located in Toronto, with offices in major urban centres across Canada, including Vancouver, Winnipeg, Montréal, Québec City, Fredericton, and Halifax. We also maintain satellite offices in Saskatoon and Calgary to support our consultants working remotely in those regions. In the Caribbean, our offices are in Bridgetown, Barbados and Kingston, Jamaica. Our teams work closely together across locations and collaborate virtually, allowing us to combine local insight with firm-wide expertise to serve clients effectively, regardless of geography.

Eckler provides independent consulting services across employee benefits, investment consulting, actuarial services, and technology solutions. Our work includes pensions, group benefits, and compensation; investment consulting for asset pools supporting employee benefit plans and other institutional investors; actuarial services for insurance companies and workers’ compensation programs; and technology and communication solutions that support these services. We help organizations with strategy, governance, risk management, financial reporting, transactions, and implementation, offering practical, people‑focused advice grounded in deep technical expertise.

At Eckler, every client engagement is unique. Our fees are based on the scope, complexity, and duration of each project, and we tailor our approach to meet your specific needs. Once we understand your objectives, we assemble a team of experts and provide a detailed proposal outlining the work and associated costs. We’re committed to delivering value and transparency, and we’re happy to discuss pricing during an initial consultation.

Eckler’s consultants bring a deep and diverse mix of professional designations and academic backgrounds that reflect the breadth of our work across pensions, benefits, investments, insurance, risk management, compensation, and governance.

Our team includes actuaries with Canadian, U.S., and international credentials, including Fellows of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, the Society of Actuaries, and the Casualty Actuarial Society. We also have professionals with investment and risk designations such as CFA charterholders, CAIA charterholders, and Financial Risk Managers, as well as CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERS.

In addition, Eckler’s staff hold credentials in accounting, law, human resources, governance, project management, and compensation, including CPAs, law degrees, HR professional designations, ICD.D, and related certifications. This multidisciplinary expertise allows us to provide practical, well‑rounded advice that reflects both technical rigour and real‑world application.
